Flipper: Sex Bomb (1982) Hardcore’s own version of Louie Louie.
Squirrel Bait: Sun God (1985) They just rip this one up. A wailing punk guitar anthem. I wish I had seen these guys live.
Dinosaur Jr: Repulsion (Live 2005) - A guitarist, a whammy bar, a floor full of pedals and a stack of Marshall amps. Few things better.
Big Black: Deep Six Live in Seattle (1987) - This is the track that first drew me to Big Black. The Racer-X EP was my first BB purchase and I listened to this over and over.
David Lowery (Camper Van Beethoven) interviewed on ABC News’ Amplified (2011)
Soul Asylum: Cartoon (1988) The official video.
Probably my favorite Soul Asylum track ever. Had no idea there was a video until many years later.
Soul Asylum: Sad Passing Daydream
My favorite from their second album, While You Were Out. The third band from the Minneapolis triumvirate of the 1980s.
R.E.M. On Late Night with David Letterman October 6, 1983. I saw them at the Colby College Gym (Waterville, ME) nine days later with my roommate, Laurie West. Memorable show.
Swimming Pool Q’s: Stingray (1982) - I saw them open up for Lou Reed at a show in North Carolina in 1984. This song always stayed with me.
The Neats: Another Broken Dream Live @ The Church, Boston (2009) - I had no idea these guys were back together.
